What is The Original McKenzie Roll?
The McKenzie Method is a type of physical therapy that uses a cylindrical foam roller to help relieve back pain. The roll is named after its inventor, Robin McKenzie, who developed the technique in the 1960s. The McKenzie Roll is designed to apply pressure to the muscles and joints in the back, which can help to reduce pain and improve the range of motion. The roll can be used on its own or as part of a larger physical therapy program.
The McKenzie Story
What was the Original McKenzie Roll? In the 1960s, over 60 years ago, Mackenzie stumbled upon an accidental cure for a disease. He began studying what he'd observed and was able to successfully resolve and treat many diseases. He ventured to share his expertise with the world, and he persisted in it for many years before finally developing his method into a successful treatment for several major illnesses.
Mr. Smith, a patient with acute and debilitating low back pain and sciatica, was left in an extended position for a prolonged period of time. This position was considered to be medically risky at the time. The pain concentrated in the lower back was initially reduced & then left completely as well as the pain in his leg. This eventually led Robin to question accepted medical understanding and launched his lifelong study of the subject.
The McKenzie Method
The McKenzie Method, also known as mechanical diagnosis, is based on the belief that many musculoskeletal disorders of the spine and extremities, even chronic, resulting from mechanical issues, and that 80 percent of patients can treat themselves by preventing recurrence.
How to use The Original McKenzie Roll
The earliest McKenzie therapeutic rolls were developed to help patients with their own recovery.
How to use a Neck Roll
The Original McKenzie Cervical Neck Roll offers natural support to the cervical structures and maintains a natural curve of the cervical spine while sleeping on the side or back. Fits in a pillowcase along the bottom edge of most standard pillows. Low-density foam with removable and washable cotton polyester cover.
- Put the roll between the pillow and pillowcase, so that it will be in the best position to provide support to your neck.
- This position is typically where the edge or border of the pillow connects with your right shoulder.
- At first, the Neck Roll may feel uncomfortable, and you may have to alter your position slightly. After a few days or weeks, you should be familiar with the neck roll and could feel uncomfortable without it.

- Lie down on a bed that's supported by a firm base.
- Wrap the roll around your waist where you normally wear your belt. When you lie on your side, the roll should fill the natural hollow in your body between the pelvis and the rib cage. When you lie on your back, the roll should support the lower back.
- During the first couple of nights of the procedure, the Night Roll may feel somewhat unsettling. After 2 to 3 nights, you will become accustomed to the roll.

How to use a Lumbar Roll
The Original McKenzie lumbar roll aids to maintain the natural curve of the spine. This will reduce the load on the spinal discs, lessen the stress on the muscles and joints and help prevent and treat neck and back pain while sitting. Additionally, it helps to slow the postural decline associated with long-term sitting.
- Sit as far back as possible in your seat, lean forward, and place the roll just above your belt line.
- Lean back against the roll so the hollow located in your lower back is firmly supported.
- To secure the roll on your back, clip the buckle on the back of the chair and tighten the strap to keep the roll in place.
PLEASE NOTE: It may take a few days for your body to adjust to the new sitting position.

- To avoid any form of common low back pain.
- An adjustable strap enables users to secure their roll to standard chair backs and auto seats.
- The strap can easily be removed.
- Strap contains latex
