The Reader allows you to get not just your current glucose reading, but also hours of data, and also an on-screen arrow indicating the direction of your glucose levels. Once you order the FreeStyle Libre System Kit, both the Reader and the Sensor arrive separately in two boxes.
The Sensor includes a sensor, an applicator, and an instruction guide. The Sensor is compact and lightweight and measures your blood glucose levels day and night for up to 14 days painlessly. It's easy to apply with the applicator that comes with it.
The Sensor should be applied to the back of the upper arm where it can be worn beneath clothing with no obstacles, and still be scanned by the reader. The Sensor may also be used while exercising and sleeping and is completely waterproof, so it can also be used while bathing and swimming.
The Sensor provides consistently proper and accurate readings over 14 days without the need for finger-picking calibrations. After 14 days, you will need to order a new sensor to resume glucose monitoring.
The Other Part of the FreeStyle System is the Reader. The Reader is part of the FreeStyle System's Reader kit, which also includes a USB cable, an instruction manual, an AC adapter, and a user guide. You will need to use your Reader to scan the Sensor to get a reading.
Effortlessly lookup your glucose level at any moment you desire by taking a one-second scan of the reader. Each scan of the reader presents your glucose reading, the last eight hours of data, and a trend arrow indicating if the glucose is going up, down, or staying steady. Your reader can retain 90 days of glucose data, enabling you to determine an accurate picture of your glucose levels over three months.
You can see patterns and trends in your blood glucose levels that can help you to determine what foods trigger your blood glucose levels to spike, what times of the day they spike, and what reduces their level. The reader has dual-function testing, with a test strip port that is capable of measuring glucose and ketone levels.
