What is the use of iWalk crutch?
The best solution for non-weight-bearing lower leg injuries is the iWalk crutch. It's easy to learn, affordable, offers comfortable mobility and causes no pain. The iWALK crutch comes with well-positioned, cushioned sections and doesn't cause any unusual strain on any arm or leg muscles as it does with traditional crutches. You use your usual leg muscles while using the iWalk crutch, so there is no impact on normal movement that you would need to be cautious about when using a dissimilar crutch.

- Pre-injury, you can go up or down stairs without having to use a handrail for support or balance.
Other Requirements
- Your injury is to only one leg.
- Your injury is below your knee.
- The knee joint can be bent 90 degrees (casts and boots are OK).
- You have complete use of your uninjured leg.
You CANNOT use iWalk crutch if:
Capacity
- You are significantly overweight, weighing over 275 pounds (125 kg).
- Your upper thigh circumference (at the top of your leg) is more than 28 inches (71 cm).
Pre-injury Ability
- You're challenged by ordinary activities like walking, climbing stairs, etc.
- You have difficulty walking without assistance.
- You have difficulty maintaining balance.
- You need the use of a handrail to go up or down the stairs.
- You can't use your uninjured leg fully.
iWalk crutch does NOT work for these leg injuries:
Age Limits
When we age, our mobility skills differ greatly from one person to another, so it's infeasible to set age constraints on who can utilize the iWalk crutch. Rather than AGE LIMITS, we prefer to use ABILITY LIMITS instead.
- ABILITY GUIDELINES- If you were able to walk normally before your injury, you are likely to be a good candidate for the iWalk crutch. Further, if you were able to go up or down the stairs without requiring a handrail to balance or support yourself, you are likely to be physically capable of working with the iWalk crutch.
Plus Size
How the iWalk operates largely depends on your body mass index. To be as natural and effective as possible, you want the iWalk to function as an integral part of your leg. This makes your iWalk look like an extension of the real legs, which makes it easier to put into motion.
The heavier you are, the less self-propelled the upper part of your crutch will be. We know that not all people are extremely lean and athletic, and you're not always guaranteed to be one. But as your mass increases above a certain point, it causes more compressible flesh in the upper thigh area, which lessens the stability of the crutch. If you weigh over 275 pounds, then the crutch may not work for you. Our first and foremost priority is your satisfaction and safety, so if you happen to be of plus size, it is vital that you understand the limitations of an iWALK before making a decision as to whether it is suitable for you.
Back Pain / Back Conditions
Using an iWalk crutch causes muscle adjustments to your legs, hips, glutes, and lower back that temporarily change how you use the muscles of those body parts. This may cause temporary fatigue and discomfort that will likely disappear as the muscles get used to your new movement patterns prompted by the crutch. If your back pain isn't relieved or increases over a few uses of your iWalk crutch, stop using it and see a doctor.
Diabetics
Diabetic foot ulcers can trigger neuropathy or damage to the peripheral nerves of the feet and legs. This can cause numbness, lack of Proprioception, and impaired balance, which will make use of the iWalk crutch challenging.
Amputees
The iWalk crutch is becoming increasingly popular as both daily-living assistance and a temporary teaching device for new below-knee amputees. The primary requirement for new below-knee amputees is to have minimal stumps of at least 4 cm. Above-knee amputees cannot use the iWalk crutch.
- New amputees - After an amputation, our iWalk crutch can help you recover after walking by developing strength as you exercise with a prosthetic leg before you are fitted with a permanent prosthetic. The iWalk crutch also enables you to maintain your lifestyle and maintain your regular routines.
- Existing amputees - iWalk provides exceptional stability and hands-free mobility for the times you don't want to use your prosthetic leg. You're able to build an environment in which you can walk in safety and comfort. You can do a lot of things where you don't want to expose your prosthesis.
